On Wednesday afternoon, just hours before his commitment was to be announced on national television, Florida-based safety recruit Trey Marshall talked about his experience so far at The Opening 2013 and what drew him to the two programs he was set to choose from that night.

Marshall is set to announce his commitment tonight on ESPN U. The consensus four-star safety has narrowed his long list of scholarship offers down to two: Florida State and Ole Miss. Marshall stands 6' tall, weighs 192 pounds, and plays his high school football at Columbia High School in Lake City, FL. In addition to the Seminoles and Rebels, he holds offers from Florida, Miami, Arkansas, Louisville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and South Florida.

SB Nation recruiting analyst Bud Elliott characterizes Marshall as a versatile defensive back and praises his ability in run coverage:

Marshall's greatest attribute is his versatility -- something I find is underrated in the football scouting community. It's frustrating, because in the era of 85 scholarships, the ability to do multiple things is quite valuable indeed.

Marshall is an aggressive run defender, often lining up in the box and in the position of a slot cornerback. Marshall delivers a blow and tackles the ball carrier in the correct spot. Marshall can be overaggressive at times, but does beat blocks and get runners on the ground.
