Will Bynum will stick with the franchise where he's played all but one year of his NBA career, signing a two-year, $5.75 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, per Sam Amick of USA Today.

Bynum is nothing more than a backup point guard, but he's not a bad one, and the price is good for that spot. The 30-year-old averaged 9.8 points per game in only 18.8 minutes of playing time, just a tad off of his career high. The starting point guard on Georgia Tech's 2004 runner-up squad isn't much of a shooter, but at 6'0 -- if that -- he's got speed, and also dished out 3.6 assists in his limited court time.

The Pistons backcourt loses Jose Calderon, the most expensive player on the team's roster last year, as he signed a 4-year, $28 million dollar deal with the Dallas Mavericks. They still have Brandon Knight, who's a point guard but has looked more to score in his first two years in the NBA, and Rodney Stuckey, who averaged 11.5 points primarily off the bench. Those two, or perhaps Kyle Singler, are the two starters at the guard spots.

But they need guys capable of getting the ball to young bigs Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond -- and also Josh Smith, whose new $56 million contract also got rid of a good share of the cap space they needed. Bynum's a solid third option for the price.

Bynum's career averages are 8.1 points and 3.2 assists. Of his six years in the NBA, five have been in Detroit, the Chicago native's NBA home since 2008 after he returned from two seasons playing overseas for Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Bynum is, of course, the lesser of two Bynums on this years free agent market.
