Even at 34, Fabrizio Miccoli could still be useful in Serie A. He looked dangerous at relegated Palermo last season, and was subject to strong interest from Parma after his contract with the rosanero expired earlier in the summer. However, the veteran striker has rejected any such advances -- and a move to Melbourne Victory -- in favour of a return home.
Miccoli was born in the province of Lecce, though has never played for his boyhood club until now. He's never hidden his affection for the giallorossi, famously breaking down in tears after scoring a brilliant free-kick away at the Via del Mare for Palermo in 2010.
With Lecce currently playing in Italy's third tier after losing in the playoffs last season, it's a big step down for a player who could still feasibly perform at the top level. But, after 22 years away, it's fitting that Miccoli is set to return home to end his career.
