The Boston Red Sox have officially activated shortstop Stephen Drew from the disabled list, reports Evan Drellich of the Springfield Republican. To make room for Drew on the roster, infielder Brock Holt was optioned to the minors.
Drew has been out since June 28 with hamstring tightness. He has played in just 66 games during 2013 due to various injuries. Along with the hamstring tightness, Drew has also missed time with a concussion and back discomfort this year.
When in the lineup, Drew has hit .233/.313/.409 in his first season with the Red Sox after signing a one year contract worth $9.5 million. He will slot back into the eighth spot in the order while playing shortstop.
Holt was called up July 6 and played in 10 games for Boston, hitting .290 with a .624 OPS.
