The Arizona Cardinals are "closing in" on a contract for free agent offensive tackle Eric Winston, according to Pro Football Talk. Winston and the Cardinals are reportedly after a one-year contract, and according to the report, the deal could be done "in the next 24 hours."

Winston has been on the free market since being released by the Kansas City Chiefs more than four months ago. Winston started all 16 games at right tackle for Kansas City last season and played well. He's been consistent throughout his career, starting all 16 games with the Houston Texans the five seasons prior to joining Kansas City.

Neither of Arizona's offensive tackle spots are filled with sure-fire starters. Levi Brown is set to be the starter on the left side, but he's been declining in recent seasons and losing his job to Winston wouldn't be all-that surprising. Bobby Massie started on the right side last season and improved as the season progressed, but he doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence either way.

Arizona's offensive line was among the worst last season, ranking dead last in pass blocking and run blocking by Pro Football Focus. With the addition of quarterback Carson Palmer, who isn't the most athletic or mobile quarterback out there, the Cardinals need to bolster their offensive line any way they can.
