The New York Knicks are the favorite to sign free agent point guard Beno Udrih, and a deal between the two parties could be announced as soon as Thursday, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. The Knicks have explored their options with Bobby Brown and Chris Duhon, but Udrih has always been the team's preferred choice to play alongside Pablo Prigioni and Raymond Felton.
New York only has the $1.27 million veteran's minimum salary to offer Udrih, which marks a steep drop from the veteran's $7 million salary from last season, but the Knicks can provide a good opportunity to boost his stock for another run at the free agent market next season.
Udrih was traded by the Bucks to the Orlando Magic in the J.J. Redick deal, and he appeared to be happy to leave Milwaukee. The 31-year-old point guard played just 18.4 minutes per game for the Bucks last season behind Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings, and when he joined the Magic his playing time jumped to 27.3 minutes per contest. Udrih averaged 8.2 points and 4.6 assists between those two teams in 2012-13.
If the Knicks sign Udrih, they will have 14 players under contract and one roster spot remaining. The team recently agreed to terms with Jeremy Tyler on a two-year deal.
