After spraining his ankle in the Jets first preseason game, rookie quarterback Geno Smithreturned to the practice fieldSunday morning, helping to alleviate some of the concern surrounding his injury. Smith turned the ankle cutting upfield against the Lions on Friday, but it doesn't appear to be much of an issue.
The Jets haven't discussed who will start under center in their next game. Sanchez will likely be the one seeing the first reps for now.
Fantasy impact: Initially after the injury, Smith was expected to be back in practice Monday, so his early return bodes well for his status going forward. X-rays on his ankle were negative, and Smith said he was just "a little sore."
Smith was efficient in his first game, but he didn't do much to separate himself from the pack. Although Mark Sanchez threw a pick-6, he settled down a finished 10-of-13 passing with one touchdown to a wide open Jeff Cumberland. Regardless of who's starting, it's hard for any owner to get excited about a Jets quarterback.
