NBA free agency: Greg Oden's contract with Heat only a 1-year deal, per report

Greg Oden's new contract with the Miami Heat is only a one-year deal, according to Mark Deeks of ShamSports. The contract was initially reported to be a two-year deal at the veteran's minimum with a second-year player option, but Deeks says there's no option year at all.

Oden will still make $1.027 million from the Heat this season, but not having that player option takes away some of the security he was thought to have as he tries to make his comeback to the NBA. The former No. 1 pick hasn't played since 2009 due to a series of lingering injury problems that he's still trying to overcome.

Oden recently opened up about his situation. He's still unsure if his body will be able to make it through an NBA season, but he's extremely excited to be a part of what's going on in Miami.

If Oden is able to stay somewhat healthy and contribute even a little, he could be a big help to a Heat team that's rather thin in the frontcourt. If Oden does play well, perhaps he can parlay that into a bigger contract next offseason -- if he doesn't get healthy, however, he doesn't have anything to fall back on with the Heat.
