Carolina Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn left Thursday's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens with an apparent hand injury.
The injury occurred on a routine tackle in coverage that left Munnerlyn laying on the field for a few moments before walking off the field with assistance. Carolina's training staff were stabilizing his arm, but according to Sports Illustrated's Chris Burke it was the hand they were most concerned with, telling Panthers head coach Ron Rivera the source of the injury.
Munnerlyn's absence creates a vacuum at the defensive back position. He's not the most reliable cornerback the team has, but is the best suited to play the nickel role. The Panthers have struggled to find reliable depth and a potential long-term injury creates a scenario where the defense is relying on a mixture of undrafted free agents to fill the gap.
There has been no official update on Munnerlyn's status at this time.
