Tottenham Hotspur have announced on their website that an agreement has been reached with Steaua Bucharest for the signing of their centre-back Vlad Chiricheș, as their impressively productive transfer campaign continues. Spurs have reportedly paid around £8.5 million to bring the highly-rated defender to White Hart Lane.
Despite being only 23, Chiricheș has already been capped by Romania 19 times, and was a regular as Steaua won the Romanian league title last season. Capable on the ball as well as defensively, he could prove to be a great long-term signing for Spurs.
Chiricheș is their fifth summer arrival, though -- with the exception of occasional stand-in Étienne Capoue -- their only new centre-back. Having lost Steven Caulker and William Gallas this summer, Spurs have done well to reinforce their back line, especially with such a young talent.
