Green Bay Packers cornerback Casey Hayward could be out for up to a month due toa severe hamstring injury. Hayward originally sustained the injury early in training camp and further aggravated things with an early return, and will now likely miss the team's first three games. Hayward was a big contributor to Green Bay's defense in his rookie season.

Raiders lose LT Jared Veldheer to IR

The Oakland Raiders placed Jared Veldheer on injured reserve with a designation to return, meaning the left tackle will be out until at least Week 9. Veldheer is the second left tackle Oakland has lost to injury as rookie Menelik Watson has already sidelined with an ailment of his own. That injury may not be serious, but he was not practicing earlier in the week. Khalif Barnes is expected to slide over from right tackle to fill in.

Dolphins sign Koa Misi to four-year deal

The Miami Dolphins have signed linebacker Koa Misi to a four-year contract extension. The second-round pick in the 2010 draft has started since his rookie year and was entering the last year of his rookie contract. This extension has implications for how Miami's defense is shaping up for the 2013 season, specifically how incoming rookies will contribute.

Arthur Jones recovering from viral infection

Baltimore Ravens defensive end Arthur Jones is currently on the mend from a viral infection near his heart, something that's had him sidelined since the third preseason game. Reports indicate the infection has cleared up but, after missing that much time, Jones has work to do before he's ready to return to the field.

Jets release Brady Quinn

The New York Jets went from four quarterbacks on their roster to three, but only for a limited time. The team released Brady Quinn with the intention of re-signing him on Monday, likely making the move to avoid having Quinn on a guaranteed contract for the 2013 season.

There are other possibilities, though, and Jets blog Gang Green Nation considers them. Geno Smith is expected to start for the Jets in their Week 1 contest with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
