Raiders announce Terrelle Pryor as starting QB going forward

Terrelle Pryor has been named the Oakland Raiders' starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Pryor broke the all-time record for rushing yards by a Raiders' quarterback when he ran for 112 yards in a 21-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He will need to work on his decision making in order to become a complete quarterback, as Pryor threw two interceptions in the loss, bringing his rating down to 70.6 on the day.

The decision to move forward with Pryor shows that he has important people in his corner. A report last week from Michael Silver indicated that there was dissent inside the organization, with owner Mark Davis pushing for the third-year quarterback while others inside Oakland doubted his ability. They preferred to see rookie Matt McGloin get opportunities, according to the report.

Pryor was acquired in 2011 through the NFL's supplemental draft. At that time there were doubts where he could be a quarterback, with some suggesting he would be better served by bulking up and becoming a tight end. If Pryor can continue to play like he did against Indianapolis the Raiders might not be looking at 2013 as a rebuilding year, but rather as a season to make a statement.
