Eli Manning is getting battered and bruised as the New York Giants are locked in a defensive battle with the Carolina Panthers. He has been sacked six times in Sunday's game and with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
Position coaches are working with the offensive line and trying to settle left tackle Will Beatty, who has struggled against defensive end Greg Hardy -- he has three sacks on the day, including this one.
The Panthers' identity on defense is to mask their ailing secondary with an overwhelming pass rush. This hasn't had a lot of success early in the season, but it's working against Manning today. The Giants' quarterback has just 24 yards passing.
Hardy's three sacks are rounded out by rookies Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short, both of whom got the first sacks of their career.
Carolina currently lead 10-0. There have been opportunities for the Giants to get back in the game, but they have been unable to capitalize on two bad mistakes by the Panthers, including a punt mix up and a bad Cam Newton interception.
