The former Tiger has a positive outlook on the blockbuster deal that sends him to Texas.
Recently traded from the Tigers to the Rangers for Ian Kinsler, Prince Fieldertold Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News that he waived his no-trade clause because he believes the deal is "good for everybody."
Fielder took the blockbuster swap in stride, telling Fraley, "I understand baseball business," while adding the trade was not entirely unexpected.
Fielder had on off-year by his usual standards in 2013. He hit .279/.362/.457 with 25 home runs and 106 RBIs, which would be a strong performance for many hitters. For Fielder, however, it meant career-lows in slugging, home runs and isolated power. Playing first base at a pretty mediocre level throughout his career, the downturn crushed value, leading to an fWAR of 2.2, his lowest since 2008.
For his part, Fielder seems eager to take advantage of the new environment in Arlington. Fraley asked him about playing in Ranger's Ballpark and Fielder said it "should be okay. I'm pretty excited about that.''
He is a career .265/.373/.592 at his new home.
