Cousins has thrown for 248 yards and two touchdowns in place of RGIII.
Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins is doing all he can to make make Mike Shanahan look like a smart man. Cousins has rewarded his head coach's decision to start him in place of a struggling Robert Griffin III by putting up an impressive performance in the first half against the Atlanta Falcons.
Cousins, who Shanahan has said will start for the remainder of the season, has thrown for 248 yards and two touchdowns and has the 3-10 Redskins winning, 20-17, after two quarters. He's completed 13 of his 20 passes and sports a quarterback rating of 141.3.
He has yet to throw an interception, but did lose a fumble after getting sacked in the second quarter.
Cousins took a beating early on behind the Redskins' porous offensive line and watched his team fall behind 14-0, but kept his composure. He hit Fred Davis for a 23-yard touchdown just before the end of the first quarter, then found Pierre Garcon for a 53-yard score midway through the second quarter.
