A pair of key defenders will be out for the first-round playoff game.

The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers will both be without defensive playmakers when they take the field for their first-round playoff game Sunday afternoon. Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews and San Francisco cornerback Carlos Rogers have both been ruled inactive for the game, according to Robert Zizzo and the 49ers Twitter account.

Matthews' absence is expected, as he had surgery to repair a thumb injury. The Packers' leading pass rusher missed four games earlier this season with a fractured thumb. He aggravated it towards the end of the season and was held out in the season finale against the Chicago Bears.

Rogers injured his hamstring last weekend and was held out of practice for much of the week.

The 49ers will also be without tight end Derrek Carrier, linebacker Nick Moody, guards Ryan Seymour and Joe Looney, defensive tackle Quinton Dial and wide receiver Jon Baldwin.

Also inactive for Green Bay are wide receiver Chris Harper, quarterback Scott Tolzien, cornerback Jumal Rolle, linebacker Nate Palmer, guard Lane Taylor and center J.C. Tretter.
