What do the last four Super Bowl winners have in common with the San Diego Chargers?
The way the San Diego Chargers started the 2013 season has made them part of an odd stat that stretches back to 2009.
The last four teams that traveled to Philadelphia to play the Eagles in the home opener of their season have gone on to win the Super Bowl, as @_GreatOne pointed out on Twitter. The Saints beat the Eagles in 2009, the Packers in 2010, the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.
In a way, playing the first game of the season at Lincoln Financial Field has been good luck for every team besides the Eagles. In 2013, the San Diego Chargers were the lucky team. They beat Philadelphia, 33-30, back in Week 2 and went on to win nine games and sneak into the postseason.
Denver is considered the odds on favorite to not only beat the Chargers, but get to the Super Bowl. But it's tough to argue with the stat. After all, the Broncos weren't the ones who knocked off the Eagles in Philly to start the season.
