Colorado's Spencer Dinwiddie out for season with torn ACL

The Buffaloes will have to move on without their most valuable player.

Colorado point guard Spencer Dinwiddie will miss the rest of the season after an MRI on Monday revealed a torn ACL in his left knee, the school announced. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.

Dinwiddie injured the knee during the first half of the Buffaloes' loss at Washington on Sunday; Colorado was outscored by 20 points after he left the game.

The veteran point guard was in the midst of a fine season and is leading the Buffs in both scoring (14.7 points per game) and assists (3.8). Behind those efforts, Colorado had the look of a team that might be able to do some damage in the NCAA Tournament, but now the Buffs' near-term prognosis is uncertain, particularly at the offensive end, where Dinwiddie won't be around to set things up. For a group that already wasn't shooting the ball well from outside, the loss of his 41.3 percent shooting from deep will hurt.

Dinwiddie is the No. 1 junior in this year's draft class, according to DraftExpress, which has him going 24th overall to the Utah Jazz in their latest mock draft. With a lengthy recovery from injury now ahead of him, though, he might need to return to school in order to restore his current draft stock.
