Kenyon Martin Injury: Ankle sprain and tendinitis sideline Knicks big man 2 weeks

The Knicks frontcourt depth takes a hit with Martin expected to miss at least two weeks.

New York Knicks backup center Kenyon Martin will miss at least two weeks after an MRI revealed he is suffering from a sprain and tendinitis in his left ankle, the team officially announcedMartin suffered the ankle sprain during the second quarter of the Knicks' loss to the Indiana Pacers Thursday night and did not return.

His injury comes at a terrible time for New York. Amar'e Stoudemire also sprained his ankle against Indiana and is expected to miss at least two weeks, as well. The Knicks' frontcourt depth has been depleted once again, leaving just two healthy reserves in Cole Aldrich and Jeremy Tyler. Martin has averaged 20.8 minutes per game off the bench, along with 2.7 points and 4.4 rebounds.

The Knicks dropped back-to-back games following a five-game winning streak that helped push them back toward the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. New York is entering a huge stretch of games at home, playing eight games in Madison Square Garden. The next road game the Knicks play is Feb. 3 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
