Can the Busch brothers reverse their fortunes at their home track?
NASCAR doesn't love anything quite as much as it likes narratives, and the Busch brothers always seem to steal the headlines whenever the stock-car series arrives in Las Vegas for the Kobalt Tools 400.
If you paid any attention to NASCAR at all this week you might've heard that Kyle and Kurt Busch were born in Las Vegas. It's a tried and true storyline that pops up every year, but you might be surprised to know that neither brother has had much success at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Sure, Kyle won the 2009 race. But his 140 laps led are the fifth-fewest out of all current Sprint Cup tracks, and his his average finish of 14.7 is nothing to write home about. Kurt's fortunes at his hometown track are even worse, with a career-lowest 21.8 average finish and a mere two laps led in the last eight years.
When the green flag waves at 3:16 p.m. on Sunday, Kyle will start 20th and Kurt will start 23rd. Both Las Vegas natives will have a lot of work to do to put the past behind them and make the most out of their trip home.
Coverage of the Kobalt Tools 400 begins at 3 p.m. ET on Fox.
