Blackhawks vs. Red Wings: Duncan Keith hits Teemu Pulkkinen up high

Did the referees miss a high hit?

There was no shortage of hard hits in the NHL on Sunday, but the most questionable one might have gone uncalled.

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith got away with what looked like a high hit on Detroit Red Wings forward Teemu Pulkkinen in the dying minutes of the second period.

As Pulkkinen tried to enter the offensive zone, Keith stepped up and landed a hard hit on him while trying to impede his progress.

The referees didn't blow their whistles and play continued, though the Red Wings' bench was audibly furious with the hit. You can understand why: Keith certainly looked like he got his elbow or shoulder up into Pulkkinen's head on the play. Luckily for Detroit, Pulkkinen wasn't injured. That's great news for the Wings, who lead the NHL this season in man-games lost to injury.

Keith was suspended for five games in 2012 for elbowing Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin. Whether the league takes a look at this play after the game remains to be seen, though the fact that no penalty was called and Pulkkinen wasn't injured probably means the play won't result in discipline.
