You're not supposed to be that far out of the net, Martin Brodeur!
Martin Brodeur likes to play the puck, and throughout his career he has been one of the best puckhandling goalies in the league. He was at one time so good that his ability to play the puck was always associated with the decision to implement the trapezoid rule prior to the 2005-06 season that limited the area on the ice where goalies were allowed to touch the puck.
On Tuesday, he really wanted to get to this loose puck and didn't care how far out of his crease he had to go to get it.
That could have been really bad, but fortunately for him the gamble paid off (at least as far as not giving up a goal).
The rest of the night wasn't as kind to Brodeur as he allowed four goals in a 4-2 loss to the Bruins that really hurts the Devils' already slim playoff chances.
Still, watching Brodeur out along the boards brought back some memories of the time Patrick Roy tried to skate with the puck over the red line and did a spin-o-rama.
