Pryor wants out of Oakland and the Raiders don't look like they'll stand in his way. Elsewhere, the Patriots are interested in retaining Vince Wilfork and Mike Williams has told police it was his brother who stabbed him in the leg.
The Oakland Raiders have all but penciled in Matt Schaub as their starting quarterback after trading for the former Houston Texan last week, and that's not sitting well with Terrelle Pryor. Pryor has asked the Raiders to trade him, according to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports 1.
Marvez reports that the trade request dates back to the Senior Bowl in January.
Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie seems as though he's open to granting Pryor his wish, suggesting to Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News that Pryor could be traded or released soon. Team owner Mark Davis told SB Nation Monday morning that "there will be a whole other stage of [free agency]," suggesting that the team is not done making moves this offseason.
Pryor started nine games for the Raiders last season before giving way to Matt McGloin. While Pryor showed good ability with his feet by rushing for at least 90 yards three times and scoring two touchdowns on the ground, he failed to develop into a consistent passer. In 11 total appearances, he had a 57.4 completion percentage, seven touchdown passes and 11 picks.
MJD scheduled to visit 4 teams
After a rough couple of years in Jacksonville, former Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew was never going to be a major target in free agency. But with the big-name signing period over, the three-time Pro Bowler is beginning to draw some interest around the league. The New York Jets, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers are all expected to meet with Jones-Drew this week, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
The 29-year-old Jones visited Pittsburgh last week but left without signing a contract. He is reportedly seeking $3.5 million per year, which will be hard to come by for an aging back with a history of injuries.
Mike Williams stabbed by brother
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams has told police that it was his brother who stabbed him in his thigh with a kitchen knife on Sunday night. Williams, who has already been released from the hospital, has stated that the incident was an accident that occurred while he and his brother were wrestling.
Police are currently looking for the brother and he has yet to be apprehended.
It's been a rough offseason for Williams, who has also been in the news for throwing loud house parties and getting arrested for criminal mischief and trespassing. New Bucs head coach Lovie Smith expressed his frustration with the wideout back during the NFL Combine.
"We're just not going to put up with it, no matter who it is," said Smith. "You have to be good on the field and off the field. Simple as that. And if you're not doing what you need to do, one or the other, you have problems and that's where Mike has to take care of a few things."
The Bucs have released a statement in the wake of the stabbing expressing concern for Williams' safety and postponing further comment until more details are known.
Patriots hope to keep Vince Wilfork
Veteran New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork has requested a release, but team owner Robert Kraft isn't quite ready to see him go. On Monday, Kraft told ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss that he hopes the five-time Pro Bowler will stick around for 2014.
"In modern-day athletics, in pro sports, it's a business as well as commitment to one another," Kraft said at the NFL's annual meeting in Orlando, Fla. "We have to work through [this] and I'm still not giving up hope that he'll be part of our team next year."
The 32-year-old Wilfork, who missed the majority of 2013 with a torn Achilles, is scheduled to count $11.6 million towards the cap during the final year of his contract. The Patriots have reportedly approached him about cutting that number but have been unable reach an agreement.
Kraft admitted that there were obstacles in reaching terms acceptable to both sides.
"For him, he's making some individual decisions. For us, we have to put a team together of over 50 people. We have a salary cap," he said. "In the end, it's about both parties feeling it's a good transaction and it's a win-win. I think that's what we're both shooting for."
Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Wilfork has already cleared out his locker at Gillette Stadium.
Browns sign Paul McQuistan
The Cleveland Browns have signed former Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman Paul McQuistan, who started 14 games for the Super Bowl champs last season.
McQuistan started six games at guard and nine at tackle in 2013, and Browns general manager Ray Farmer told ESPN's Tony Grossi that the team is "intrigued" by his versatility.
Just because McQuistan played left tackle in Seattle doesn't mean he's any good at it, however. Pro Football Focus rated him No. 71 out of 76 tackles in 2013.
Steelers bring on Arthur Moats
The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to a contract with former Buffalo Bills linebacker Arthur Moats, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
Moats, a four-year vet who was taken by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2010 draft, has 141 tackles and five sacks during his career. He played in 16 games last year, recording a career-high 54 tackles.
With the Steelers having cut Larry Foote earlier this offseason, they were in need of depth at the linebacker position.
