Borussia Dortmund vs. Schalke 04: Final score 0-0, physical and scoreless

The Revierderby was testy, but ultimately lacked serious excitement in front of goal.

Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 weren't able to separate from each other in their race for second in the Bundesliga, but they'll both feel good about their chances of holding off Bayer Leverkusen going forward. There was plenty of action in the Revierderby, but very little of it in the penalty areas in a 0-0 draw.

The first half was wide open with half-chances for both sides, but nothing truly clear-cut for either team. It was extremely physical as well, with Marco Reus and Julian Draxler -- each team's best attacker -- rightfully picking up yellow cards for dangerous play.

There wasn't exactly much more in the second half, with both teams seeming more concerned with keeping a clean sheet than scoring, rarely committing numbers forward. Schalke actually had the best chances of the half, but didn't force Roman Weidenfeller into any particularly difficult saves. Roman Neustädter hit a free header right into the Dortmund keeper's arms in the 58th minute and Kevin-Prince Boateng had a nice banana shot shoved away in the 73rd.

Dortmund subbed on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in an attempt to push for a winner. And while they had more of the ball in the closing minutes, Ralf Fährmann was never seriously tested.

Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller, Durm, Hummels, Papastathopoulos, Piszczek, Kehl, Sahin, Reus, Mkhitaryan (Aubameyang 79'), Großkreutz (Scheiber 87'), Lewandowski

Goals: None

Schalke: Fährmann, Kolasinac, Matip, Ayhan, Hoogland, Neustädter, Boateng, Draxler (Max 90'), Meyer (Annan 77'), Goretzka (Obasi 85'), Huntelaar

Goals: None
