Chris Daughtry sings national anthem, apparently it's "The Land Of The Fray"

The National Anthem at the Final Four is haunted by The Fray. Did that joke just go... over your head?

Chris Daughtry sang the national anthem before UConn-Florida at the Final Four. He allegedly is the lead singer of a rock band called "Daughtry,"  and although I'm not 100 percent convinced that this is a real thing I'm supposed to be aware of, everything seems to check out. Whatever. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy.

What's important is that while singing the national anthem, he made the National Anthem Singers' Dreaded Mistake of going hard for the climactic part of the song -- o'er the laaaaand of the FREEEEEEEEEE -- and, uh, missed:

No offense to The Fray, who make boring inoffensive pop-rock, but America is not possessed by them. This is The Land Of The Free, and not, uh, you know, The Fray's Land.

But this story takes a TURN. Because before Daughtry, the last entity to horrifically mangle the national anthem before an NCAA Tournament game was...

wait for it...

THE FRAY

oh my goodness that was awful why why why why why why why did they do that why did they do that sorry for even bringing up Chris Daughtry he was so much better than The Fray I should not have put them in the same sentence
