Clean and white, gold and gone.
Ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League second leg tie against Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion, Nike unveiled a new, special edition Mercurial Vapor IX colorway to celebrate Cristiano Ronaldo's most recent successful season. Madrid lost match 2-0 but advanced 3-2 on aggregate with Ronaldo watching on the bench (to recover from a recent injury). As a result, there was no chance for the player to show off his beautiful new gear.
The boots are stark white with a black Nike swoosh across the front and a black sockliner. On the instep of the shoe is a large "CR7" wordmark where the word "Nike" would otherwise be. On the outside of the heel are numbers that signify which, of the 100 released pairs, you were lucky enough to purchase. The most striking detail of this boot however is the one that you're least likely to miss. The outsole of this one is gold-plated for a brilliant, metallic effect.
Ronaldo will debut the boot on the 16th of April, against Barcelona in the Copa del Ray Final. If you weren't quick enough on the draw to purchase a pair of these, good luck finding one. They sold out in 48 seconds flat.
