The Baylor Bears have added another potential playmaker to the fold on Tuesday with the commitment of League City (Texas) Clear Falls athlete John Humphrey, who announced his commitment via Twitter:

The official declaration came just minutes after Humphrey spoke with head coach Art Briles:

Humphrey last visited Baylor in late March and had a top three ($) of Baylor, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma back in early March after a Junior Day with the Sooners.
The 5'11, 162-pounder also held offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Cal, Colorado, Kansas State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Oregon State, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, and Utah.
A consensus three-star prospect, Humphrey is rated as the No. 84 athlete in the country and the No. 71 player in the state of Texas in the 247Sports Composite rankings. 247Sports has him as a near four-star prospect with a grade of 89 and slots him as the No. 32 athlete nationally.
For a school with a proven track record of developing wide receivers and turning speedy high school prospects into even faster college players, Humphrey could have four-star value with a reported 40 time as low as 4.25. At the recent Houston NFTC, the Clear Falls product ran a 4.50 in wet and rainy conditions that did not make for the fastest track.
There's also a chance that he could end up playing cornerback, a position of need for Baylor -- the wide receiver position is currently stocked with more quality depth at this time.
On film, Humphrey is one of the most dynamic and explosive athletes in the state, with better agility than the 4.40 shuttle time he ran at the Houston event would suggest. With 66 catches for 816 yards as a junior, he was also highly productive and could contribute in the return game at Baylor -- he scored twice on kickoff returns in 2012, though he could face some competition in that regard from fellow Bears commit JaMycal Hasty, one of the fastest running backs in the state who could also return punts and kicks.
With excellent stop-start ability, Humphrey can change directions extremely quickly and has the vision to spot cutback lanes across the field, a skill enabled by his speed.
After lining up as a running back and in the quarterback spot to take direct snaps last season, Humphrey is a versatile player who can hurt defenses in multiple ways. On screen passes, he's a home-run threat every time he catches the ball because of his agility and top-end speed.
All of those skills should translate well to the defensive side of the ball in college should the Bears decide to play him on defense.
Humphrey is now the seventh commit in the 2015 Baylor class, which ranks No. 3 in the Big 12 and No. 14 nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
