Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Serena Williams take the court for the first time on Tuesday.
Day 2 at Wimbledon gets underway on Tuesday with opening-round matches for some of the top seeds on both the men's and women's sides. Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are among those who will be in action.
Federer, who has won seven times in Wimbledon and is looking to capture a record 18th Grand Slam, begins his tournament against Paolo Lorenzi of Italy. Nadal, the man who provides the biggest threat of overtaking Federer's Grand Slam haul, opens against Martin Klizan of Slovakia. Nadal has historically had trouble early at Wimbledon; he was knocked out of the first round last year and the second round in 2012.
Speaking of first-round knockouts, Stan Wawrinka will be hoping to avoid the early exit he made in the French Open in May when he faces Portugal's Joao Sousa on Tuesday. John Isner, the tournament's highest-seeded American man (No. 9), begins play against Daniel Smethurst of Great Britain.
On the women's side, No. 1 seed Williams opens against fellow American Anna Tatishvili. No. 5 Sharapova takes on Samantha Murray of Great Britain while Brazilian Teliana Pereira challenges No. 3 Simona Halep.
