Costa Rica and the Netherlands couldn't find a goal in 120 minutes, mostly thanks to some great goalkeeping play. It's been mostly one-way traffic -- the Oranje have had all of the possession and a big shots advantage -- but the Ticos have defended well and earned a 0-0 draw to get to a penalty shootout.
As expected, Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been the star of this match. He's made a half-dozen world class saves, but he's been bailed out on a few occasions too. The Netherlands have hit the woodwork multiple times. while Yeltsin Tejeda had a goal-line clearance late in the second half.
Netherlands goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen had a big stop late in stoppage time -- his only one of the game -- but he hasn't been rewarded for it. Instead, Louis van Gaal has made a surprising tactical sub ahead of penalties, subbing out Cillessen for Tim Krul, presumably because Krul is better at stopping penalties.
As a reminder, penalties are best of five, and completed when one team is no longer mathematically able to beat the other in five rounds of penalties. If the teams are tied after five rounds, they go to sudden death, where each team takes a penalty until one team scores and the other misses in the same round.
