Millsap has been added to the squad after Kevin Love pulled out over the weekend, and the Hawks forward will participate in the Team USA training camp that starts on Monday.
In the wake of Kevin Love's withdrawal from the USA Men's National Team this summer, Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap has been added to the roster, USA Basketball announced on Sunday night.
Team USA begins a training camp on Monday that will run through Aug. 1 in Las Vegas. The camp will be used to help select the team that will play in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which begins Aug. 30 in Spain.
Millsap has some brief experience playing for Team USA, participating in the 2009 mini-camp and the 2009 USA Basketball Showcase. Millsap is coming off a strong first season in Atlanta, where he averaged 17.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. The power forward shot 46.1 percent overall and 35.8 percent from three, and he was also selected to his first All-Star Game.
Team USA is a bit thin on big men heading into the camp. In addition to Millsap, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Andre Drummond and Kenneth Faried will be in Vegas.
In other Team USA news, USA Basketball Select squad member Jimmy Butler won't be able to participate in the upcoming camp due to a groin injury.
