It looks like the stadium caught on fire and the field was covered in ash.
When CenturyLink Field got new turf, the Seattle Sounders said that it would be replaced after two years. Well, this is the third year with the same turf and it shows.
Sigi Schmid and several players commented about how bad the turf was before the season and it has been getting worse as the year has gone on. It's a horrible surface to play on.
To make matters worse, an Amazon party was held on the field Saturday, leaving the grounds crew with less time than normal to prepare the pitch and this is the result.
Finally, the Sounders' turf looks as bad as it plays.
Some people will undoubtedly call for Seattle to install grass, but that's not realistic. Turf is necessary in some places and will remain necessary. Turf isn't the problem, bad turf is. You know what is also a problem? Bad grass.
So instead of the grass vs. turf debate, maybe the Sounders could just get new, good turf for next season? As funny as this is, a decent surface would be even better.
