The format

Overall, there are 16 teams including eight regional champions from the U.S. and eight international teams. The U.S. teams will only play other American squads until the championship game. All 16 will play in a round-robin format until every team but one from both the U.S. and international brackets are eliminated with two losses.

In the championship game, one team from the U.S. and one international group will square off.

The format for the LLWS has changed over time, including three years ago when crossover games were introduced. Four teams will be eliminated by virtue of losing their first two games respectively in the double-elimination format. Of those four, two United States squads and a pair of international teams, will play against each other (U.S. vs. International), ensuring every team plays at least three contests.
