
If it seemed a little weird that the Columbus Crew were going to honor Landon Donovan before Saturday's game against the LA Galaxy, well, that's because it was. Donovan may be the best player to spend the bulk of his career in MLS, is arguably the most important American soccer player and enjoyed a few impressive moments at Crew Stadium, but teams aren't usually in the habit of honoring their opponents.
Well, if the Crew's goal was to throw off Donovan it worked. The Crew would end up thrashing the Galaxy 4-1.
But before they did that, there were actually some cool moments during that ceremony. Donovan seemed visibly moved by the video montage (above) as he was flanked by former Galaxy and United States teammates Gregg Berhalter and Frankie Hejduk, both of whom now work for the Crew.
Crew fans also got a chance to show off a pretty cool piece of tifo, they dubbed "Guardians against the Galaxy." Here's a closer look (courtesy of Massive Report):
