This is about as close as you can come to having your body obliterated and end up smoking a cigarette a few minutes later.

Sometimes you see a race car accident where metal and rubber and fire fly at high speeds across hundreds of yards and wonder how nobody died. Here, via The Big Lead, is video of one such crash from a person who almost died:

The video, incredibly, is uploaded to YouTube by the flagman himself, Keith Trusso. It comes from an Aug. 8 sprint car race in Watsonville, Calif. Trusso was just about to yank out the caution flag upon seeing the crash begin, then quickly realized that Scott Hall's car was flying towards his face: However, all was well, and in no time he was fixing the camera and having a smoke:

Pretty relaxed reaction to a car flying near your brain.

Here's to flagmen. Everybody else has one of those screens in between them and the cars, but you have to be able to reach out and make signals. Which sometimes leaves you, you know, with flying cars near your face.
