Western Michigan was very bad at football last year, and on Thursday we might have found out why — the Broncos' coach is better than his players. P.J. Fleck is 33 years old, but the former star Northern Illinois wide receiver showed that he can still play, beating out top cornerback Donald Celiscar to make a catch.
If the Western Michigan players can get better at playing football than their coach, then maybe the program won't need to get creative to try to make things in Kalamazoo look less awful.
While looking up the information for this article, I came across last year's schedule and results page on the Western Michigan website. The Broncos went 1-11, but the school claims otherwise ... That overtime lost to Eastern Michigan? It was basically a tie.
Of course, there are no ties in college football, but good job, good effort, WMU. Maybe they can try that again next year ... or get players who are better than their coach.
