No. 8 Michigan State 45, Jacksonville State 7 | Full Recap
Within the first minutes of the game, Connor Cook connected with Tony Lippett for a pair of touchdowns, bombs of 67 and 71 yards, and the game was never again in doubt. After the Spartans' first score, Cook took a hard hit below the knees and briefly exited the game before returning to connect with Lippett the second time. Michigan State did not require him to be in the game much longer.
The Spartans' defense put together another suffocating performance against Jacksonville State's rushing attack, allowing just 22 yards on 25 attempts. Not that FCS JSU was ever expected to give Michigan State a run for its money, but the blowout loss concluded a pretty miserable 24 hours for Gamecocks everywhere.
Except defensive lineman Caleb Lawrence. He was killing it.
BYU 35, Connecticut 10 | Full Recap
Bob Diaco's first game as UConn's head coach could have gone better. BYU quarterback Taysom Hill savaged the Huskies' defense by both air and ground, amassing 415 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. The Cougars got out to a 21-point lead and never looked back.
The Huskies weren't able to muster much of a counterpunch when they had the ball. Both Casey Cochran andChandler Whitmer got a shot at leading the Connecticut offense, but neither found very much success.
