Jake Locker led the Titans to a blowout win over the Chiefs and gets the Cowboys' porous defense next week. We break down the fantasy implications.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker has a lot to prove in 2014. With the team declining his fifth-year option, he's playing for a new contract at the end of the season. Locker needs to prove that he can stay healthy and develop into a reliable quarterback for Tennessee.
Early returns were promising in Week 1. Locker threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-33 passing, leading the Titans to a 26-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He completed 66.7 percent of his passes, an encouraging development after he struggled with accuracy for most of his career.
Fantasy impact: Locker didn't light up the stat sheet, but he avoided turnovers and kept the offense moving down the field. That's just about all you can ask for out of a fantasy QB2, and Locker is a solid starter in two-quarterback leagues as long as he avoids injury.
There's another reason why Locker is an appealing waiver pickup; the Titans get the Dallas Cowboys and their porous defense in Week 2. Look for Locker to put up big numbers, with potential breakout weeks from Justin Hunter, Kendall Wright and Delanie Walker.
