The switcheroo might have earned this ballboy a sweet wad of cash.
The demand for Derek Jeter memorabilia is preposterously high. One Yankees' ballboy knew this, and took advantage by kinda skirting his job description (via Bleacher Report).
Normally, his job would be to toss the recently hit ball into the stands, but instead he kept the ball in his glove while handing a random ball to a fan from his back pocket. This was a pretty wise decision. As ABC points out, the ball should have markings from MLB to prove its authenticity, and could be worth up to $10,000. Of course, there's a possibility he was acting on team orders to hold onto all Jeter balls or something, but we're hoping this was just an enterprising move on the ballboy's behalf.
If only he'd communicated how valuable Jeter foul balls were to the adorable little girl who chucked one back.
