The KC Chiefs are preparing for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers and for the second consecutive day there's some bad news on the injury front. Romeo Crennel touched on those players that didn't practice, and a few of the roster moves.
The injury report
Pretty bleak: Tamba Hali, Branden Albert and Ryan Lilja will not practice.
Uh-oh. That'll be two days of missed practice for both of those guys. I don't like seeing the Chiefs D without Tamba Hali. Or two starting offensive linemen. If those three don't practice on Friday, the Chiefs are going to have a big problem.
Dexter McCluster and Kendrick Lewis are "kind of limited", according to Crennel.
That said, rookie left tackle Donald Stephenson didn't play too bad in his first start against Denver last weekend. If Stephenson has to play again, Crennel said he'd feel a "little bit more comfortable" now that he has a game under his belt. He also said he was a little surprised at how well Stephenson did.
"Yeah, a little bit because rookies in their first game, they get a little anxious. Sometimes they over-set, under-set. Many times they end up giving up plays, but like I said, he embraced theresponsibility and the job. I liked what I saw."
The Chiefs have a new player
As discussed here, the Chiefs claimed guard Hayworth Hicks off waivers from the Jets. "He played at Iowa State," Crennel said. "He's a big, strong, physical offensive lineman. So we think he might be able to fit in with our offensive line, so we claimed him and we got him and he's getting physicals this morning and when he can get out there he'll get out there and we will start indoctrinating him into the program."
What a line ... "indoctrinating him into the program."
More roster moves
"Also on the practice squad, a couple things happened there - we released [Matt] Szymanski, he was the kicker that we had in and we added Quan Sturdivant, a linebacker who was most recently with Arizona. He wason Arizona's practice squad last year, was in training camp with them earlier this year. So possibly he might be able to help us on special teams and at the linebacker spot."
Szymanski was signed last week. Tough break.
