Clowney will play in his second NFL game as the Texans declared him active for Week 8 against the Titans.
Houston Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is active for the team's game Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, according to Tania Ganguli of the Houston Chronicle. Clowney was listed as questionable with a knee injury, but was expected to play given that he nearly took the field in Week 7.
Clowney will now suit up for just his second NFL game. He was the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but he went down with a knee injury against Washington in Week 1.
Houston could certainly use his help on defense. The Texans currently rank No. 26 against the pass (268.7 yards allowed per game) and No. 20 against the run (118.6 yards allowed per game). Clowney was drafted for his pass-rushing ability, but he wouldn't have been taken first overall if he didn't have something to offer everywhere. That said, in his first game back, he's not likely to shoulder a full workload.
Clowney recorded just one tackle in his NFL debut in Week 1, but will face a Tennessee Titans offense that has allowed the seventh-most sacks in the league. Couple that with the first career start for Zach Mettenberger and the Texans should have chances to get to the quarterback on Sunday.
