Sharp was unable to put weight on his left leg after the hit.
The struggling Chicago Blackhawks took another hit on Tuesday when winger Patrick Sharp had to leave the ice after taking a hit along the boards.
The play occurred during the second period as Sharp tried to gather the puck along the corner boards. Sharp saw Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin lining up a hit and tried to reposition himself, but the two players managed to get their knees tangled up on the play anyway. Sharp remained on the ice for a few moments before limping to the dressing room and hasn't returned since.
The injury could be a major setback to what has been a quiet start to the year by Sharp's standards. The veteran has just three goals and eight points in 12 games.
