The Kansas City Chiefs have a bit of a problem. A secondary problem.
The Chiefs are totally banged up, especially in the secondary. The Chiefs have nine cornerbacks and safeties listed on their depth chart and four of them are on the injury report this week.
RCB: Javier Arenas, Jalil Brown, Neiko Thorpe
LCB: Brandon Flowers, Jalil Brown, Neiko Thorpe
FS: Kendrick Lewis, Travis Daniels, Tysyn Hartman
SS: Eric Berry, Abram Elam
(Those in bold are hurt. Check out the injury report for more details.)
Because of the injuries there, the Chiefs have added a player to the practice squad -- safety Jose Gumbs. He can fulfill some obligations during practice like, you know, having a safety when you practice. He can also be available on game day if Lewis, Elam or others can't play.
Gumbs should be a familiar name because, according to our draft interests table last April, the Chiefs met with him before the draft.
That the Chiefs signed someone should cause our ears to perk up. Elam and/or Lewis not playing this weekend could be a real possibility.
