There were some familiar names at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday at the RBC Heritage, and as such, the rich got richer. While Graeme McDowell had only one previous official win in the USA, he's continually in the money at almost every event he enters. He's contended multiple times since that win and racked up millions in career earnings.
On Sunday, he added another million-dollar payout to his coffers. It's a nice little boost for the Orlando-area resident, and might lead to free drinks for awhile at his new restaurant outside Lake Nona. Webb Simpson, another repeated contender on Tour, picked up more than $600,000 on Sunday at Hilton Head.
This event, which is one of the professionals' favorites, was in jeopardy of being dropped from the PGA Tour just a few short years ago. A title sponsor was needed after Verizon did not renew their deal with Tim Finchem and company, but RBC came through in the final days to work out a deal and keep the classic Hilton Head layout, and a nearly $6 million purse, on the rota.
There were even 21 golfers this week who did not get to the weekend but still cashed at least a $9,000 check due to the "missed cut - did not finish" rule that was put in play. Not bad work for a couple days of golf. Here are the payout totals for the field who played on the weekend at Harbour Town:
