The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones with the No. 17 overall pick. With a run of offensive linemen in the early part of the first round, lots of defensive talent is falling into the teen and 20s. Sharrif Floyd and Bjoern Werner were both on the board when Pittsburgh went on the clock, but they decided to go with Jones.

Steelers fans seem satisfied with the pick, if a bit muted. Here's the take from Neal Coolong at Behind The Steel Curtain:

ESPN analyst Jon Gruden said Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones is a Dick LeBeau kind of guy. He's now going to play for him.

Jones had been long considered to be the most likely option for the Steelers with the 17th pick, and that's what happened.

Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd was still on the board, and the Steelers passed for a player who doesn't fit the mold of recent Steelers' drafts - he's an outside linebacker, and he's older than average.

At 24, Jones is one of the oldest prospects in the draft. Once considered a top 5 pick, concerns over his spinal stenosis dropped him down to the middle of the first round. He's a fairly decent pick for the Steelers' aging defense.
