The Canucks had their two first powerplays of the game in the period, with the second featuring some of their best scoring chances of the game. Alexander Edler came within inches of scoring and giving Vancouver the lead, but the puck ended up going just over the net.
Vancouver finally made good on their scoring pressure after a wild scramble in front of Antti Niemi led to a goal from Kevin Bieksa. After the goal there was a scrum around the net, and matching penalties meant the teams played four-on-four for two minutes.
With a little more than three minutes remaining in the game, Logan Couture tied the game with a powerplay goal for the Sharks after Zack Kassian took a roughing penalty.
The teams head into the final period tied at one, with the shots 22-21 in favor of Vancouver.
