Broncos tight end Joel Dreessen was fortunate to find himself catching passes from Peyton Manning last season but he will find himself on the sidelines during the team's mandatory minicamp next month. Dreessen underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of offseason workouts, which includes the June 11-13 mandatory team minicamp, according to the Denver Post.

Broncos blog Mile High Report: Peyton Manning displaying strong arm at OTAs

Dreessen was a sixth-round pick of the Jets in 2005 before signing with the Texans in 2007. He became a regular on the offense by 2009 and started 32 games between '09 and 2011. With Manning looking for some big tight end targets after signing with Denver last year, the team added Dreessen and Jacob Tamme. Tamme had more catches (52 to Dreessen's 41, a career-high) and yards (555 to 356), but Dreessen did catch more touchdown passes, five scores to Tamme's two.

Both should continue to split time and play together regularly on offense next season. Though Dreessen has suffered what should only be a minor setback, it looks as though he will just have to sit out the next few workouts.

Then, it's back to his day job: Catching passes from Peyton Manning.
