Another day at the 2013 French Open is in the books, though all of the day's scheduled matches did not take place. Weather was once again a factor on Friday, and some of those matches will have to be moved to Saturday. Many of the top players in the tournament, however, were able to get in work.

On the men's side, No. 2 Roger Federer took on his first seeded opponent of the tournament in No. 30 Julien Benneteau. Federe put Benneteau away in straight-sets, good for a relatively uneventful 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 victory.

Federer's longtime rival, Rafael Nadal, was taken to four sets in his matchup. The No. 3-seeded Nadal lost the first set against Martin Klizan, 6-4, before taking textbook straight sets at 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the third round. Also on the men's side, plenty of third-round action went down, with No. 4 seed David Ferrer advancing with a 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 win over Feliciano Lopez and No. 6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga taking out No. 25 Jeremy Chardy, 6-1, 6-2, 7-5.

On the women's side, No. 2 Maria Sharapova took down Eugenie Bouchard, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the third round. The tournament's top seed was in action as well, as No. 1 Serena Williams dominated No. 26 Sorana Cirstea 6-0, 6-2. Other high seeds who won include No. 8 Angelique Kerber, No. 5 Sara Errani and No. 12 Maria Kirilenko.
