Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland left the team Thursday to get an MRI on his ailing right hamstring, reports Todd Wills of ESPN Dallas.

Moreland injured his hammy while legging out a double in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's contest against the Boston Red Sox. The lefty slugger pulled up lame on his way into the second-base bag and had to be removed for a pinch-runner.

Everything you need to know about this weekend's festivities.The injury comes at a terrible time for the 27-year-old Moreland, who has really come into his own in his fourth season manning the cold corner in Arlington. He is batting .288/.338/.561 with 12 home runs in 58 games, and is on pace to shatter all of his career-best marks at the plate.
A stint on the disabled list is definitely a possibility for the first baseman, but the extent of the injury won't be known until the MRI results come in.
Jeff Baker will start at first base on Thursday in Moreland's absence, and will likely share time at the position with Lance Berkman should Moreland need to sit out for a prolonged period. If they're unhappy with Baker and Berkman, the Rangers also have a pretty dang good first-base option at the minor-league level in Mike Olt.
Olt was beset by vision problems in March and April, seriously hampering his performance at the plate, but has returned to form in the last week since receiving special eye drops that help curb blurred vision.
