New York Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich was lining up with the first team during minicamp. This is significant because Herzlich has been nothing more than a role player in his first two seasons in the NFL and the Giants clearly don't have a starter set in stone for next season.
Herzlich was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer at Boston College, beat the disease, made it onto the Giants roster as an undrafted free agent and now might be able to start. If that's not big news and a feel-good story for the NFL and life in general, then what is?
Revis possible for training camp, definite for Week 1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik reiterated head coach Greg Schiano on Friday, saying that he was "fully confident" that Revis would be ready for Week 1 of the regular season against the New York Jets. Revis is recovering from a torn ACL and was traded to the Buccaneers before the team could be absolutely sure that he'd recover properly, so this is definitely good news.
Gratz getting starting opportunity early
Dwayne Gratz is likely going to be one of the starters at cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gratz was taken in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft and is already getting first-team reps during the team's minicamps. Given that the Jaguars are a team in rebuilding mode, it makes sense to see a player like Gratz get the nod sooner rather than later.
Michael taking first-team reps for Seahawks
Running back Christine Michael was taking first-team reps at running back for the Seattle Seahawks recently. As it turns out, the Seahawks were just giving Marshawn Lynch a break and likely wanted to see how Michael looked with the starters to gauge his ability if he ever has to step in due to injury. Still, moves like this show that the Seahawks are serious about Michael's future as a potential contributor with the team.
Chicago wants Super Bowl AND the Draft
Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel has made it clear in the past that he thinks Chicago is a viable location for a Super Bowl. On top of that, he now is suggesting that the NFL bring the draft to the Windy City. While a Super Bowl seems less likely given the weather and the quality of Soldier Field, the draft is an intriguing prospect given all the potential locations.
