2013 NASCAR at Kentucky Speedway rain delay weather update

As of 7:15 p.m. ET light rain shower was moving over Kentucky Speedway. The Sprint Cup race remains delayed due to weather.

A cluster of showers and storms just west and south of the track are keeping a few light rain showers around the track. These showers and storms could impact the track through maybe 8 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. EDT. Sunset for Kentucky Speedway is at 9:08 p.m., once we start losing the heating of the day, some of these showers and storms will begin to weaken, decrease and break up giving us more windows. The question remains will Kentucky Speedway end up under one of these windows to get the race in tonight? Showers and storms still remain a threat until 10 to 11 p.m. EDT this evening.

I remain cautiously optimistic that we can race tonight, but there will get to a point that it will be to late to start. If NASCAR decides to postpone the race, they will try again Sunday at noon.

Unfortunately the forecast for Sunday is very similar to what we had today. Scattered showers and storms will begin to form as we head into the late morning and afternoon. Cluster of storms and showers, some heavy will begin to form as we go later into the afternoon and evening. There will be dry breaks but like today they could be very small windows.
